National Nurses week
Shirin Amirbeigi

Meet Theatre Nurse Shirin who works at our Cromwell Hospital in Kensington. She is a fertility superhero to our patients, and she's been revolutionising the world of endometriosis care at Bupa since she joined in 2022. With her skills in Robotic Surgery, she's not just a Nurse; she's a beacon of hope for many aspiring parents.

Seeking a fresh start and new challenges, Shirin relocated from Dubai to work at Bupa in the UK. After hearing about our reputation as a ‘’world-class place to work and well renowned in the private healthcare industry’’, Shirin knew that Bupa was the best place for her to grow and progress. With the help of her manager, Shirin is thriving and developing the necessary skills to follow her dreams of becoming a leader in this space.

At the start of her working week, Shirin is allocated her rota. She tells us how she values the organisation of her department. Her tasks are pre-planned in line with her capabilities, allowing her to perform optimally throughout the week. In between her time in theatre, her day-to-day entails working collaboratively with a dynamic team of healthcare professionals.

Shirin shared with us that it’s not just about the work, it’s about the unity and support amidst our healthcare professionals that really makes a difference. To the extent that, if she was not working as a practitioner at Bupa, she would miss ‘’the appreciation and big thankyou from the surgeons and managers’’. Every contribution is recognised and acknowledged amongst our people and transforming lives is a team effort.

Shirin’s passion for making health happen doesn’t stop there as outside of the theatre walls, she is a First Aider in her Community Centre. Utilising the skills she has built at Bupa to the wider community allows her to apply them to reach far and wide.

The ability to support both our patients and our people is crucial to Bupa and we are always looking to improve our employee benefits. Whether that be in the form of financial or physical and mental wellbeing initiatives in the workplace which range from women’s health ‘The Menoplan’ to mindfulness. We believe that for our people to thrive, their wellbeing must be a top priority.

Shirin praised how much emphasis goes into celebrating the wonderful range of cultures and traditions we have in the hospital. We want our people to feel at home when they come to work for Bupa and celebrate those special things that make us different.
