Our internships:
Mistura's experience
Why did you want to do an internship at Bupa?
I wanted to do the internship at Bupa as I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and to see whether a career in the health sector is for me. I wanted to experience and gain insight on what it would be like to work in a big well known healthcare insurance company and what it would entail.
What skills did you gain from the internship?
The skills in which I have gained from the internship are persuasive skills as well as employability skills such as time management and critical thinking.
What would you say are the benefits of doing an internship?
I would say the benefits of doing an internship is that it will allow you to gain valuable experiences which you cannot be taught in a classroom.
It will help you to develop and highlight some of the skills that may be your strength and some that may be your weakness. This will allow you to identify them and you can get feedback from your supervisors or line manager who can then offer you some guidance, or they assign you activities which can help you to turn some of your weakness into strengths in addition to helping you push yourself out of your comfort zone.
You will gain a network with professionals within that field, who can potentially help you in the future, even if the field that you have done your internship in is not the career in which you would want to pursue.
How do you feel this has helped with your future career decisions?
The internship helped me to identify what career path in which I would like to pursue. It opened my eyes to various pathways that are available for me within a company and the different paths that I could take within different professions in the health sector.
What did you enjoy throughout your internship at Bupa?
I enjoyed getting to meet new people and building my network alongside getting to have an opportunity to shadow various professionals from different parts of Bupa. Seeing what a day to day work schedule is like as I got to sit in on meetings as well as observe personal energy train the trainer sessions and wellbeing for educator sessions.
I also enjoyed helping with the Bupa Foundation charity as I had the opportunity to help with the charity impact report.
What advice would you give to someone interested in an internship at Bupa?
The main piece of advice that I would give to anyone who is interested in an internship at Bupa is to go for it! You will not regret it at all, even if it is not in line with the career path that you would like to pursue in the future it will still be an amazing experience. It may even change your mind about which career path that you will pursue in the future.
